About St. John's Day School
The Day School seeks to serve families with children from six
weeks to pre-kindergarten age. Our site includes a
government funded ABC program for children, ages three through
five, whose parents meet certain financial criteria.
St. John's
also operates an after school program for school-aged
children from kindergarten through grade six. Harrison
school buses provide the transportation to the Day School.
During the summer, the school-aged program continues
with a summer long "camp."
The Pinnacle Curriculum, which is faith-based, is used
throughout all Day School operated classrooms. Pinnacle
takes a Bible verse or story and builds an entire learning
situation based on that particular scripture throughout
all classroom learning areas; math and science, language/reasoning,
dramatic play, block building, the quiet center. Each
teacher receives training, support and direction in
implementing this curriculum.
St. John's is using a new exciting curriculum in both
its pre-kindergarten and school-aged class. Teachers
underwent an intensive training session this summer
and will be introducing The Project Approach, a child-directed
form of learning in the Fall of 2008. A mentor has been
assigned to the school to assist in this beginning stage.
In the Fall of 2009, the work the children of St. John's
have done will be presented at the Arkansas Early Childhood
Conference in Hot Springs. After that, the school will
become a visiting site for others interested in the
Project Approach.
